Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools
The Uzbek Journal "Problems of Mechanics" recognizes that artificial intelligence and AI-assisted tools may support research and manuscript preparation when used responsibly.
The use of AI must not compromise originality, accuracy, confidentiality, copyright, research integrity, or transparency. Human authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to the journal.
AI Authorship
Artificial intelligence tools, large language models, chatbots, and other non-human systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
AI tools cannot accept responsibility for a manuscript, approve its final version, disclose conflicts of interest, transfer copyright, or respond to questions concerning the integrity of the work.
Only individuals who meet the journal’s authorship criteria may be identified as authors.
Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI-assisted tools for purposes such as:
- language and grammar improvement;
- assistance with coding or data processing;
- preparation of preliminary drafts;
- data analysis or visualization;
- organization and presentation of research materials.
Authors must independently verify all AI-assisted content, including facts, calculations, references, computer code, interpretations, and conclusions.
AI tools must not be used to:
- fabricate data, results, references, quotations, or evidence;
- conceal plagiarism or duplicate publication;
- create misleading interpretations;
- replace the authors’ scientific judgment;
- use confidential, personal, or restricted information without authorization.
Disclosure of AI Use
Substantive use of AI that contributes to the research, analysis, coding, interpretation, preparation of figures, or generation of manuscript content must be disclosed.
The disclosure should identify:
- the name of the AI tool;
- its version, where known;
- the purpose for which it was used;
- the part of the research or manuscript affected.
The disclosure may be included in the Methods section, Acknowledgments, or a separate AI Use Statement.
Routine spelling, grammar, punctuation, or formatting corrections do not normally require disclosure when the AI tool does not generate or materially alter the scientific content.
A suggested statement is:
During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name and version of the AI tool] for [purpose]. The authors reviewed and verified all resulting content and accept full responsibility for the final manuscript.
AI-Generated Images and Figures
AI-generated or AI-modified images must not be presented as genuine research data or experimental evidence.
Their use may be considered when AI generation or processing is an essential and documented part of the research method and the results are scientifically verifiable.
Any permitted use must be:
- clearly described in the Methods section;
- disclosed in the relevant figure caption;
- checked for accuracy;
- compliant with copyright, licensing, confidentiality, and ethical requirements.
AI tools must not be used to add, remove, conceal, or alter relevant features in scientific images or figures in a misleading manner.
Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors
Reviewers and editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, supplementary files, reviewer reports, or confidential correspondence to publicly accessible or unauthorized AI systems.
AI tools must not replace independent expert judgment or be used to make editorial decisions.
Reviewers remain fully responsible for the accuracy, fairness, and originality of their reports. Any permitted AI use must be disclosed to the handling editor.
AI use may be allowed only through a secure system specifically approved or provided by the journal.
Non-Compliance
Failure to disclose substantive AI use, submission of fabricated AI-generated content, or breach of manuscript confidentiality may result in:
- a request for clarification or correction;
- suspension of editorial consideration;
- rejection of the manuscript;
- withdrawal of acceptance;
- correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction after publication;
- consideration under the journal’s Allegations of Misconduct Policy.

This policy is effective from 1 August 2026 and will be periodically reviewed in response to developments in artificial intelligence, publication ethics, and applicable legal requirements.
